there are usually 2 types of infections that can go on :

1.) Yeast- Which is usually a white looking discharge, and just smells well, yeasty.

2.) Bacteria- Which will usually be a dark debris looking color, and it could also be a means for ear mites (usually in puppies, or little older)

Yorkies may also have extra hair in their ear canal, which the groomer will usually pluck out- so if they have a ton of that hair, i would pluck, pluck pluck! good luck!
