That's a myth. I wolf may eat the entire stomach of small prey such as a rabbit, but in larger prey they do NOT usually eat stomach contents.

So far as dogs and wolves not being the same species, they are in fact the exact same species. As this article states, any type of dog and wolf can interbreed and produce FERTILE offspring. Genetically different species produce INFERTILE offspring.
