Be sure to take a few treats out with you so that as soon as he potties you have a treat to give him. This should help to reinforce what it is you are wanting him to do. If you wait to give the treat until after you get back into the house he may not associate it with the actual pottying on the leash.

Good luck! I have issues with Gracie sometimes on the leash too. But usually it's because we are somewhere new and she's more interested in looking around.
