I think you need to do what works for you. We had to throw out the books and just figure out what worked for Gizmo. Every yorkie is different, so don't be afraid to try new things. I agree that he might want to be close to you every chance he can get since he's away from you all day.

Gizmo also sleeps with us and uses a pottie pad at night, so it's a little unfair to compare how we do things to how you do. It's not all wonderful all the time though since when he gets frustrated and wants me to wake up and play, he will often decide to sit on my head and stand on my back. But I also love having him snuggle next to me at night. We've discovered that he likes to play really hard before bed and then he sleeps better and for longer periods of time. He also has access to a window he can look out if he gets bored during the night, and I think that helps too.
