Freemont Street isn't as expensive as the strip. I went for Thanksgiving 2 years ago. We stayed far off the strip and it was SCARY. The second night we stayed at the Golden Nugget on Freemont. It was very nice. Maybe someone that lives there can give you better info. Good luck
