I have had both scenarios....Tara 4lbs....8 yrs ago retained all her teeth and I got them removed under anaesthetic....my other two Casper and Tammy I bought older, Tammy needing teeth removed as she was uncared for, Casper has beautiful teeth.
I got Corky as a pup and he is now 8 months....he has lost all his baby teeth except his 2 top k9s which are wedged firm with the new adult teeth, so they will probably have to be taken out....
I think the tinnies retain more often than the standards do...Corky is standard.
They do really suffer for 24 hours after the surgery, but after that you wouldn't know they had anything wrong.
