We now leave him water because he is able to hold it. He was not deprived, or mistreated. He was having accidents and the water was causing it. He was given access to water once while we were gone and I feel that is enough while you are training. You need to do what is best for your dog and in your situation, no one can tell you you are wrong or right.
Wrong. Someone CAN tell you if you are wrong or right if what you are doing is putting your pet at risk. Just because you did it and nothing happened doesn't mean it's always going to be the great outcome. Water is a necessity to an animal just like it is to a human but more so for the animal. 8 hours without food? In my eyes and opinion, that's abuse. If he was having accidents, it was obviously not his fault - he obviously needed a bigger area to be in so he could have his water AND potty when needed. No water for long amounts of time is just ugh.
