I missed this thread,,,,,,,,, My sister Debbie had the gastric bypass surgery. She was 378 lbs and would actually stop breathing at night when she was sleeping. She had always been a big girl her whole life. The doctors told her that she was going to die if she didn't do anything about it! So, She decided to have the surgery. It's been about 5 years and she couldn't be more happy! I have to admit, the surgery went well. BUT she stoped breathing 2 times in recovery and got very ill. It took her quite a while to heal, but I know for a fact it was the best thing she could have done to save her life. She lost a total of 248 lbs! And now is at a healthy 130. She even got pregnant with Cherish not even a year after surgery and the doctors were worried because she continued to lose while pregnant. Cherish was just fine and came out a whopping 8.6 lbs. My sister has been through alot and is now in trouble again. But I know if she was still the big girl she was, I know deep in my heart she wouldn't be here today! She tackeled one hurdle with the wieght loss and now she has to clean up do her time and be the wonderful mommy we all know she can be!
I'm sorry to go on and on about my sister. But I really think if you are 100 + lbs,,,, I say go for it! Good luck to your mother!
Here are some before and after pictures of Debbie,,,,,,
The after pic is of Debbie on the right, Andrea (who just became a mommy last week) in the middle. And there is me on the left. Boy I can sure lose some lbs by the looks of my double chin! eeeekkkkk
