No, not necessarily, as long as long as the dog's parents were AKC and the breeder has breeding rights, and is in good standing, the offspring can be registered. The AKC does do kennel inspections, but as long as they pass state laws the kennel passes, that's why it's important to get good state laws in regards to kennel conditions. The AKC is trying to get poor breeders off its registries, but they have to be extremely bad in order to do this, and other registries openly accept them, so beware of the alternative registries. Many puppymills are still listed with the AKC. I looking toward the future that this will change. Here's a list of breeders that the AKC has suspended.
