Have your vet check his legs as conformation faults like bow legs, cow hocks, etc. can put a lot of strain on joints and cause problems like arthritis later on. If his legs are severely bowed, surgical correction while still a puppy is sometimes recommended.

So many people think breeding to the standard is all about beauty when it has everything to do with how sound a dog will be.
