These are great replies!! I'm going to have to remember them. I'm not sure what part of the country you are from originally, but if your FIL is a native Texan, or from anywhere in the south, a syrupy sweet "Well bless your heart" will put him right in place. Everyone here knows what this really means.
I think I'll start following it up with one of the above mentioned phrases.
