The above suggestions are GREAT. Get yourself some good enzyme cleaner (popular brands are Simple Solution, Nature's Miracle, and PetZyme). This is important because the enzymes actually eat away at the uric acid particles stuck in your carpet fibers. Regular carpet cleaners cannot get rid of the smell. You just spray the stain (you might want to get a black light) and let it sit overnight. Then use a steam cleaner and clean over the stain.

After all this, start training all over. You could even crate if you needed to. The most important thing is to catch them in the act of doing it right and PRAISE and TREAT. Positive reinforcement is the best training method.
