Most show breeders do this, and here's a thread that discusses oiling the coat: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-coat-oil.html

You will also find other threads on this topic in the grooming forum. Yorkie Grooming Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community

You say you use baby shampoo on your dog, you should know that dog's hair and skin has a different Ph than human skin and hair, and I don't recommend using human hair products on dogs, even gentle ones. Human products are more acid that a dog's hair can tolerate.

The ph is very important. People are 5.5 ph which is much more acidic than dogs which are 7.0. Using shampoo that's less than 7.0, which is alkaline, can cause the hair to dry out and look fried over a period of time.

I haven't found the need to oil Joey's coat, I use a good shampoo and conditioner meant for dogs, and his coat looks great with this alone.
