I did the same thing to my knee when I was about 20. I fell going down on a hill on blades & skidded on gravel on top of cement. It was really deep & really gross. I'm sure I picked the scab because I'm a scab picker & you can barely see where it was.

I just recently had a tattoo removed & I was very worried about it scarring. My Plastic surgeon told me to keep it moist until it was completely healed. She recommended I use aquaphore instead of antibacteral ointment. She said the antibacteral ointment can cause an allergic reaction if you use it too many days in a row. She also told me to applie sunscreen to it until it returned to it's normal color. My last treatment was in March & it's healed up manificently with no scar. I think keeping it moist & not picking the scab is the most important.
