Right now when she barks I turn around or leave the room when she barks and when she stops for a bit I go in. My boyfriends dogs learned relax which as helpful for barking and running wild But with Suri any attention such as no, pennies seems to make her bark more like it is a game. I guess the ignoring bad behavior is the only one that's working, but I'll try what you said.
Extinction works, but it takes the longest time. She is also getting rewarded for barking because she loves her own voice. You have to shake the can after each bark, and you do it one more time than they do. If you give up, you have taught them to hold out, and they can win. I use a pretty heavy tin, one of those christmas tins, filled half way up with pennies, it does make a loud noise. You are trying to associate the word No with something bad. Later the word No works all by itself. The finger to the lips has no meaning unless you put meaning to it. She will learn that she can stop the can from shaking if she stops barking when you say No. Try not to smile or laugh, when you are doing this, look her straight in the eyes, say a stern "no, and shake a loud can. Repeat as needed.
