Cell phones were out...I called my mom frantic trying to see if she got hold of her and she hadnt either! She finally called an hour later to let us know she was ok and stuck in a bar downtown and couldnt leave because the area was filled with smoke...But at least we knew she was ok...I for one couldnt get out of the city for 13 hours...No trains were running, no buses...NOTHING AT ALL...Like our city was on lockdown...My husband at the time worked right in Times Square...He had to walk 13 miles back into Brooklyn with all the other millions of people that decided to do the same...
Last night when I got home, my mom had a candle lit in our front window...And you can see the Towers of Light from the front windows as well...It is all very moving
Everyone that I know, knows at least one person or a friend of a friend who died that day It was a terrible tragedy and one that no one will ever forget...
God Bless Everyone

Oh Fran how terrible! I was at home that day and was on the phone with my mother when I saw the 2nd plane crash. I couldn't believe what I was watching. I was so relieved that my husband had gone to a different job and wasn't in Manhattan! My best friend had to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and another friend works for Morgan Stanely and she was late for work that day but she saw the plane crash into the building from the express bus. My brother-in-law was missing but they finally found him just roaming the streets covered in soot.
Once I knew all my family and friends were safe I just sat in front of the tv all day crying. It was so surreal.
I had a hard time watching the coverage yesterday but I did. It is so sad that we know people who died that day and like you everyone we know does too. My thoughts and prayers and with everyone.
