Ya know, I would swear that Trixie does this same thing to get revenge on me sometimes. If I'm outside talking to someone with a dog and she can see it, yep, pooped in the house when I walked back in. If I lock her out of the bathroom while I shower, yep, pooped when I walk back out.

I don't think that whether or not dogs have the same emotions as humans is anything that can ever be more than theory. (I mean think about it, how could it ever be proven?) I have known dogs to grieve themselves to death over things and dogs who 'pout' at their owners. So, IMO, they do definately have a range of emotions that they exhibit comparable to those of humans. Spite may as well be one of them.
