I took in my Sammy four weeks ago to get neutered. I dropped him off at 7:30 am and wasn't going to pick him up until the next morning. I do trust the vets as they have been recommended by a lot of people with small pets. They have taken Sammy out of the room before to do different things, but it didn't bother me. I called at 1:30 pm, and Sammy was fine. However, at 2:30 pm, he began to get distressed. By 3:00 pm, he was gone. He had a severe allergic reaction to the anesthesia. We were devastated. He would have been 1 year old in September. I went in on Monday morning to talk to the vet again. She explained what had happened. She said in the four years she had worked there, she hadn't seen this happen. I don't know how we could have known this. These are such everyday operations. Most do not go wrong. I still go to this vet (we just got a girl from the same breeder with the same mom as Sammy's). I still trust them and know they did everything they could.
So, you have to trust the vet you use. If you do not "feel" good about this one, then ask around. I work at a high school and have to sometimes stop to say to myself, "I do these types of things every day. However, the parents don't. I need to stop and explain what is going on." If you share your concerns with the vet, he/she should take the time to talk with you about your concerns.
I know things will go well for you. I hope you find a vet you are comfortable with!!
