I think you should find another vet before the surgery. Vet records aren't like medical records; it's not a big hassle to switch vets like it is to switch Dr's. Basically all they need is the shot record and info about any special needs and they usually are willing to take the owners word for it. Vets also don't face the same restriction, so your new vet could simply call the old one and ask them to fax the records. If any vet picked up my pup and took them out of the room, I would simply follow them. There is no reason to take the dog out for shots. With the exception of spay/neuter and boarding my pets have never been out of my sight at the vets. The allday thing is normal for males, females usually stay overnight.
