I was going to suggest this. I used a baby monitor and I could hear Hot Rod whine every time I would leave. It broke my heart. I did the leaving for short periods and back in to get him used to me leaving. Then for awhile I couldn't get out to my laundry room without him running out to go with me. Now it doesn't even phase him. I tell him to stay and he does.

I have gone back in just to see what he is doing and he's gone back to his pillow or in the family room and was doing whatever. It will get better. Also maybe try leaving a radio on. Good luck.
