Pink used to be for boys, not girls I wouldn't buy pink for a boy anything, but here's an interesting note. In a history of costume course I took one time online I read that in early Victorian times and before baby girls wore blue and boys wore pink. Because pink is really a light red and red is a very powerful color, pink was not considered appropriate for baby girls. However, off the top of my head I can think of several later Victorian paintings and fashion plates showing little girls in red coats and older little girls in red dresses. So it must have been relatively fluid even then. Obviously it's all a matter of cultural conditioning. |
