To get an AKC pup the breeder must be in good standing with the AKC, and the pups must be eligible for registration, and this usually means that both parents were registered and had breeding rights, so their offspring are automatically eligible. Joey's breeder wouldn't send in the registration papers until, I showed her proof that a vet had neutered him, then she sent his papers in, and I registered him.
