Hi,
I just wanted you to know that you are not alone when it comes to family issues/ and animals. I have a brother who tells me to hit my puppy/spank her whenever i don't like what she does AND unfortunately, when I was a child my own mother had my brother shoot my beloved kitty because he was very ill. The thinking is that they are "putting the animal out of it's misery" so in their eyes it is the best thing to do. I am still traumatized from that experiece. it was my first kitty and I loved him so much.
It is awful that people do that to their pets, and do not think twice about it.
I have learned not to have anything to do with those people .I don't trust anyone who could hurt an innocent animal. My brother who tries to say to me to hit my baby, after he knows she means the world to me, will never, ever, be alone with my Yorkie, EVER. You can't trust those kinds of people to be good and loving pet owners.
