I think a newspaper is an acceptable place to advertise for dogs for sale, but you still have to give the breeder the same scrutiny that you would if you bought them anywhere else. Others can no doubt give you better advice, but you should inquire about their breeding history and whether this line of Yorkies has any genetic defects, ask to see both "parents" if possible, visit them in their home and see for yourself how the dogs are raised, inquire about about a health guarantee.
If you're looking for a lower-priced dog, you may not get all you ask for, but you still want to have as much background information as possible to make sure you're not buying into a line with proven genetic defects.
