My daughter goes to a BBQ every Sunday with her friends and they all bring their dogs. I have even gone with her and I have brought one of mine. So asking first, just to make sure he doesn't mind is respectful, and if he likes dogs, I am sure he will say yes. It's an outdoor event, so why not!! Have fun.
