What are they basing the diagnosis of liver shunt on? Did they do an ultrasound, scintigraphy, etc? What were the results of the bile acid test?
If there is no definitive diagnosis for extrahepatic shunt and your baby has MVD or intrahepatic shunts, opening him up may be unnecessary as neither of those are operable.
