What you have described seems very fishy. I think I would have to pass on this breeder if I were you. I didn't read all of the responses, so I may just be repeating what others have already told you.
A few things to look for--
A breeder who has a detailed sales agreement that will protect both the breeder AND you. Specifically one that clearly defines how a situation will be handled should the pup be diagnosed with a genetic related health condition.
A breeder who is not trying to get the pups out the door as quickly as possible--one who won't release the pups until 12 weeks (or close to it)
A breeder who requires the pup to be placed on limited registration. (No respectable breeder will just hand over a dog that can be bred, no questions asked.)
If the breeder is withholding paperwork until you show proof of s/n, that's understandable, but just to say they'll "be mailed to you later..." NO WAY! Too many people have fallen for that and been taken.
If there are any areas of concern you have, get it in writing!
If possible, get a copy of the sales agreement to look over ahead of time and post it here. You can bet that if there is anything out of the ordinary, someone here will catch it and help you out!
Good luck w/ your search! |
