Confused Face color changing

Hi,
I'm new to YT and to owning Yorkies, but I have owned a Jack Russell/Miniature Pinscher mix for 4 years. So I understand the "go get 'em" attitude of terriers and we're all adjusting to each other well.
The breeder I bought Gwen from let me bring her home when she was almost 6 weeks old, I know that was really really early but the breeder was pretty insistent she was ready (in hindsight I think it was a puppy mill operation but I've learned my lesson there and won't hesitate when we buy a male to be more adamant on my questionings) but she is thriving in our house and eats good, generally goes on her potty pad (she seems to prefer the outdoors and seems to be "holding it" longer now) she is currently 12 1/2 weeks old weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces (she was 1 pound 12 ounces when she came home).
I have a few questions. I've read bunches of Yorkie books and visited countless websites looking for these answers to no avail, hopefully someone can shed some light on the subjects....
1. My other dogs never changed colors as their breeds stay what they are. I know her face should turn gold but I was wondering when that generally starts occurring, she is more silver on her face than when she came home...is that how it starts? About how old are they when their face should be changed?
2. The breeder did let me see the parents but she had shaved the dam completely bald for the summer, not a puppy cut, think 1/4-1/2 inch all over including face. The breeder swears that the dam is a silky coat and the sire is a soft coat. When will she be old enough for me to tell what she will be? When her hair is wet it will part and it is growing pretty quickly I think. But I don't know how she'll turn out. Is it general practice to breed to silky to soft?
3. Anyone have any ideas on how to make her quit trying to eat the comb and brush everyday when I work on her coat? If there are treats involved all she does is try to get at them and that's not conducive to me grooming her.
4. I've had very bad experiences w/ black nailed dogs and clippers so I have an Oster nail grinder (like the groomers at PetSmart use) and she freaks out when it touches her nails. Any ideas on how to make her enjoy her grooming sessions more?

Thanks for any ideas you can give me.
