the ticking of the clock sounds like their mom's or litter mate's heartbeat and it is comforting to them so they dont feel so lonley and unwanted.
He needs warmth and comfort right now. Imagine how you would feel if you were stripped from your envronment and thrown into a strange place. there are many things that will help to comfort him. An no worries you will pick up on his needs and wants. It will all get better.
