Leaving him alone is not good with this setup. I would really invest in an x-pen or something to get him on the floor in case he does climb. Bouncing will not be a problem on the floor too. Some pups do well in small spaces and others do not. He is still young enough to make changes...

We do have him in an X-pen now (if you meant metal folding variety of a play pen that can be used outdoors and in) ... he is on the floor with a fair amount of space to be in. He is not jumping to get out as far as I know ... just jumping up on the side as if to say "come on ... let me outta here!!" ...
You are right - he is still young and I think he is a pretty happy guy - he'd be even happier to know it's Friday and that means we spend two whole days playing with him ...
