Yes, we are getting him microchipped at the same time.
Unfortunately, I have to work so my husband will be taking him and I can't go along. I am going to make sure he asks a few questions though. We haven't trimmed his nails yet so I want the vet to show my husband how. I also want him to ask about flea and tick prevention and if we should be doing that and if so what product he recommends. I don't really want to put the greasy stuff on his fur. Is there a pill that I can give him or something else? |
I hope your little Cruiser recovers from surgery nicely. Let me know how he is doing.
First of all "Nutri-Cal Puppy" can be bought at the "Pet Store" and as far as flea and tick prevention, I use them for my 2 cats and my little Lola. My cats are indoors only, so I use the "Frontline Top Spot" which is less expensive. For Lola, I use the "Frontline Plus" because she is always coming and going from the house. It's a bit more money, but worth it. Yorkies have sensitive skin to flea bites and sometimes will develop skin problems from fleas. The cheaper products you can buy at the supermarket, do leave the hair very oily. But as far as the Frontline & Advantage products they will not if apply correctly.
The way I apply it, is to part the hair at the base of the skull and neck. Poor the liquid only on the skin slowly, trying not to get it on the hair. Don't rub... let it dry without touching for a full day. Don't brush the hair in that spot until it's completely dry (about 1-1/2 days). Then the hair wont be oily.
Ask your Vet what size/dose you should use for your size/age of baby.
Good Luck and I will check in with you this evening to see how your baby is doing. I'm on my way to a Car Show so I will be gone for a couple of hours.
