I hope things work out for you. It's amazing how well they adapt. My husband is home all winter and I work 3 or 4 days a week but in the summer my husband works wed to sun. So there a couple days a week that they are alone from 10am to 4pm and they do fine. They keep each other company and watch the stock market on tv.
. I live in nj but at the shore so you are about 45 min from me. I know you feel bad for him but please try everything possible before thinking about rehoming him. It is upsetting to them also as they become attached to us also. One of mine is a rescue, that is now in her fourth home and I have seen the problems she has had trusting us. It brings tears to my eyes just to see her little tail wag.
