Sorry to hear that your vet has no clue though....

If it's not bothering him, I think I'd just leave it alone and "let nature take it's course".... it will either heal up and go away on it's own - or you may have to intervene at a later date with some antibiotic ointment and other treatments.

For now, if the vet didn't seem concerned with it, and didn't offer any treatment.... I'd just keep a close eye on it... and wait...
