Is he underweight? Can you feel his lower ribs and/or see them? I think they're supposed to have a little layer of fat over their ribs. Maybe you can talk to your vet about how to fatten him up? I would try feeding him wet food on top of the dry for a little while, but you should definitely ask your vet.
