the surgery that your baby needs is called a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO). The surgeons i work for do this surgery quite often. It sounds more painful then it really is. They recovery quickly. The recovery time is actually less then a knee surgery. There is no cast because you can't cast a hip, the incision is too high up. Legg Perthese disease is quite painful if nothing is done about it. the bone just deteriorates and there is alot of grinding going on between the femur and the pelvis.
