He is at a good age and size to do it. With neutering you definitely want it before their sexual maturity when the bad behaviour kicks in. With spaying a female you can wait longer because most have their first heat at 7 or more months.
Good luck and if it were me I would do it now. I am getting a male soon and once he has his last set of shots then he will be off to be neutered.
