I've got a citronella collar that helps out some. My boy Maverick gets barking like crazy when he hears other dogs or someone close by the house. It helps him when I've got it on, but when it's off he's right back to normal. It's got to be pretty snug right up against his throat to work. He's bigger, but I've used it on my 5 pound girl and it fit her okay also. It sometimes only works about once out of 5 or 6 barks, but once it does work he is usually quiet.
Pennies in a can didn't phase my boy, the water squirt bottle works a little, but not great, and he barks when I leave so I needed something that worked when I wasn't there. He knows I'm the alpha and never challenges me, so that isn't his problem. I've got one of the ultrasonic collars but haven't tried it yet.
