When I brought Storm home, my husband was adament that we teach Storm who is "alpha". He is only 5 months but he is pretty good about not barking. He barks if someone rings the doorbell, but he stops when I tell him to hush. He barks if my sons or I are aggravating him, but I expect him to bark then because usually we are down at his level and barking at him, playing with him.
When I feed him, he waits until I have the fresh water and the food down. He looks at me and he does not go for his bowl until he has looked at me for a bit, like he is asking permission. I tell him, "Eat" and then he eats.
