our law here states that is the grass is above 12 inches tall they can and will come in and mow it down at the owners expense. Most cities have this law or one like it. I would call your city hall and ask.

I'm glad to hear you did something about it. You did a service to your neighbors as well as yourself!
As you said, most townships and cities have a regulation about this. Ours was six inches last I heard. I've also heard about people who violated it. You DO NOT want these people having to come over to mow your lawn, and you'll wish you'd done it yourself. Between what they charge you and the fine they add to it, you could hire a neighbor kid to do it for an entire season. And they won't hesitate to put a lien on your property if you don't pay the bill
