A few years ago the guy next door moved out and let his yard go.
I called the city code enforcer (at town hall) and they put a notice up after about a week with nothing done they came in and cut it down. and billed the guy.
our law here states that is the grass is above 12 inches tall they can and will come in and mow it down at the owners expense. Most cities have this law or one like it. I would call your city hall and ask.
Not only can snakes come from that but many other not so friendly critters.
