Possibly when you are selecting a groomer, ask to watch her groom a similar dog that is not yours. My groomer let me watch her groom a shihtzu. This way, you can see her style and the dog isn't wanting to get up and come to you.

The dog trainer that my puppy will be going to helped me find a good groomer. She said "The first time at a groomers, the owner should stay to watch."
