and if you've ever seen the fireants when they are near the lake/pond edge,,etc, and the water rises,, they'll make a ladder of ants,, from the mound to the top of the water,, only ones who drown are the workers who are sacrified to save the colony,, but most of the entire colony is a floating colony of fireants on top of the water,, floating on the bodies of worker ants til they float into something to glom onto,, FYI,,,,do not make the mistake of whackin' em with a big stick!!!

as for getting rid of em,, cornmeal works well too,, but i think grits are better,,,
