What are your worries about coming to MI? Lyme's isn't a huge problem here. We do have some cases of it but quite a few less than Minnesota and probably Wisconsin.
Ellie doesn't get flea/tick preventative at all anymore and I haven't had a problem. She usually stays inside though. Of course if you are staying in a woody area it might be different.
