Ann, think of grits like white polenta. That's pretty much all it is. It's yummy!
ETA- in addition to diatomaceous earth, I've also been reading about benificial nemotodes. I was thinking of giving them a try for fleas but there are also varieties that kill ants. I have no idea how well they work but I seriously hate poisoning my yard.
