It sounds to me like you're doing fine. All of those ideas sound beautiful and meaningful for you. If you love it, you will finish it.

One note...You can always start small in the center with your main focal point and then add on around that. Then, it looks beautiful at every stage and if you run out of one kind of tile, it won't throw you too much.
