I got Gabby when she was 9 weeks old. At first we put her in our 4' X 4' hot tub with a puppy pad. I left a radio on and gave her a blanket and chew toys. Most of the time she'd poop in the tub, not always on the pad. after two weeks she could jump out of it and tore up the carpet in front of the door. After that we put her in a wire cage with a plastic bottom. it's about 3-4' long and 2' high. she'd always rip her pad to shreds and poop and/or pee right in the cage. and she absolutely hates that cage. She's very meek in the mornings because she knows she will be going in it. She actually shakes when i pick her up and carry her to the cage. She stays in it from 7:45 until 11:00 when my husband comes home for lunch. he lets her out for about a half hour and then she goes back in it until 4:00. I started her training on the puppy pad. she was only 2.3 lbs and it was so cold and snowy here in Minnesota. so she will go on it, but I don't want her to only go on the pad. i want her to go outside when she has to relieve herself. I'm having a heck of a time getting her trained. many times she'll pee right next to the pad. same with poopin., although she'll poop anywhere in the house. i just let her outside and she peed for a really long time and then came in, took a little drink and went and peed right next to the pad. I'm wishing now I hadn't started her on the pads and just went right with the outdoors. anybody got any advice? shouldn't she be trained by now? |
