Genie,
Any disease of the liver can be irritated by introducing any foreign substance that needs to be filtered by the liver. Using gas or injectable meds or anesthesia would be one of these. I think you best bet is to brush as well as possible and have those loose teeth pulled if they are being irritated, not under anesthesia. Lupie lived her entire life without having her teeth brushed, she had four pulled at spaying (6 years old) but she lost a lot on her own. She never seemed in pain, but she was always on a hard kibble diet and lived to sixteen. There is no clear answer for this type of situation. If the vets say no, then they are probably right. Lupie had awful, ugly teeth, but I still loved her to death!
