My daughter was diagnosed with Diabetes at age 6, she'll be 22 this year. She's been on an insulin pump for the last 12 years and the pump really helped keep her blood sugars in good to great control.

Hopefully your doctor will give you a clean bill of health but if you do have Diabetes, it can be managed, you just have to know how to count carbs and you'll have do glucose monitoring 4-6 times a day. With needle therapy (giving yourself shots) you'll have to watch your diet but with the insulin pump, you'll be able to eat whatever you want, as long as you know how many carbohydrates you ingested and you bolus per the docs instructions. With the pump you can sleep late, you can be late eating meals (or skip a meal if you're not hungry) ... the pump was a God send! Needle Therapy she would have to give 3-4 shots per day but with the pump, she has a little infusion set that she changes every 3 days - so instead of 12 shots in 3 days, it's just one.

To learn more about pump therapy check out Medtronic Diabetes: Diabetes management products, education & support.

Good luck with your appointment, hopefully you are just fine!
