This was before I had dogs but we once rented a house and I'd swear I could hear children laughing periodically. however my kids would be asleep napping. Also sometimes I thought I'd catch a little blond head go by, we're brunette.

Sorry to go off topic. I agree with others though. I think dogs have a sixth sense about things. We live in apartments and Alphy will bark but that's because he'll hear people out on the stairs before I do, so I think he hears people moving around in their own home and gets defensive.
