I wouldn't put a leash (with a harness, not a collar) on him the first time out unless you don't have a secure area. The first day home I'd just make sure to bond with him and make him feel at home. Hand feeding him a bit always helps with the initial bonding. I wouldn't give him free run of the house at first. Find out from the breeder what type of potty training has been started. You may want to duplicate that at first and transition him to the method you plan to use. Remember, puppies don't have control of their bladder until 5 months or so. There will be 'accidents' but don't get upset about it. Try to catch him being good and praise him for it and don't give him too much opportunity to be 'bad'. We start ours out in an x-pen with a bed, food dish and newspaper to go on. When they're out, we limit them to one area and place paper around for them to go on. I don't really expect them to learn to 'go outside' until later but everyone does things a little differently. Congratulations and good luck with your new baby!!
